FOR THE INTERMEDIATE SPANISH LEARNER EAGER TO DIVE INTO MORE MEANINGFUL CONVERSATIONS

What if Telling Great Stories in Spanish Was as Simple as Learning Two Key Tenses?

Join the dozens of students who’ve mastered the preterit and imperfect tenses with clear grammar lessons, engaging assignments, and active listening –– and are now able to vividly share their past experiences in Spanish.

Feeling like you’re in a rut when it comes to sharing your stories in Spanish? I’ve been there, too.

I remember when my heart would pound every time I tried to organize a story in Spanish. It felt so isolating knowing what I wanted to say and not knowing how to say it.

No amount of learning new vocabulary words helps.

Trying to stick to the present tense is severely limiting.

And simple memorization just won’t hack it.

The truth is, if you want to have a real conversation, there’s no way around learning the preterit and imperfect tenses.

They’re crucial for sharing personal experiences, explaining past situations, or telling stories –– skills that are so important for genuine connection.

And if you’ve tried to learn these tenses before, and found them to be a little tricky, you’re not alone.

There are irregular verbs that don’t play by the common rules, picking between or blending them can be confusing, and the imperfect doesn’t even exist in English, which makes translating in your head first a no-go.

The good news is: you’re probably closer than you realize to learning these tenses and bringing your conversations to life.

All that’s missing is the proven system that helps you understand the rules, know when to use each tense, and gives you plenty of reading, writing, speaking, and listening exercises to practice consistently.

Verb tense anxiety is real.

¡Hola! Soy Dominique.

SALSA DANCER, WORLD TRAVELER, EARLY MORNING RISER, AND NATIVE ENGLISH SPEAKER TURNED SPANISH COACH

I've been flustered mid-Spanish-story, too.

Too many times to count. Honestly, I still find myself there occasionally. But after 10 years of speaking the language, I’ve learned how to quickly recenter and keep the conversation flowing.

How? Over the years I’ve developed go-to strategies to keep the preterit and imperfect tenses straight in my mind, making it easier to tell stories that feel natural, detailed, and engaging.

And that’s what I share with you inside Simple Spanish Storytelling (more on that in a sec!).

The thing is, most people don’t need to spend more time with apps, textbooks and tutors. What they need is a way to break down the language so that it feels intuitive. A proven system that breaks down seemingly difficult concepts into simple language, by someone who’s been in your shoes.

I’m a wholehearted believer that with the right stepping stones anyone can learn to have stress-free conversations in Spanish. Ready to dive in? We’ll be the ones ready to pass you a mouthwatering plate filled with tacos and torta de pollo adobado. 😉

When you learn these strategies, barriers fall away, leaving you with a straightforward path to seeing real progress.

So that you can:

Sing along to your favorite Spanish tune, fully understanding every word

BOTTOM LINE

If you’re ready to tell your stories and spark more connections in Spanish, Simple Spanish Storytelling was made for you.

VUELA 1 Low Intermediate Spanish Course

Simple Spanish Storytelling 101

Before our final adios, you’ll be able to start telling stories in real time, so your conversations reach a whole other level.

This course is perfect for you if you’ve already spent some time studying and learning foundational Spanish through textbooks, apps, classes, and tutors and you’re ready to apply it to day to day life.

Inside, you’ll nail down how to conjugate regular and irregular preterit verbs, which verbs have stem and spelling changes, and verbs that change meaning in the preterit (like ser and estar).

Next, we’ll dig into the biggest hurdle for intermediate students: using the preterit and imperfect together. You’ll learn key trigger phrases to help you choose accurately on the fly and which “default tense” to lean on when you’re having trouble choosing.

Meaning you’ll have all the tools you need to keep the heart pounding at bay next time you engage in conversation about the past.

Plus, we dive into surprising verbs that change meaning in the preterit and imperfect. And 7 real, practical strategies I’ve used over the last 10+ years to see huge growth in my Spanish. These are building blocks that will serve you well in your path to becoming fluent.

The best part? You’ll never feel alone on this journey, complete with accountability checks and real-life stories to add color to what you’re learning.

It’s everything you need to keep moving through the intermediate phase.

  • Here’s where you get the A to Z of how to keep going strong in your Spanish learning journey. You’ll learn all about my proprietary Monarch Method to Learning Spanish, which covers the best strategies to keep seeing progress during the intermediate stage.

You’ll also learn my tried-and-true 4-step system for staying consistent with learning Spanish, including how to zero in on your personal learning style for maximum results.

    >> Walk away with all the tools you need to stay motivated while reaching for that next goal post. Remember: Spanish is learned through consistency and practice!

  • Ready to learn how to express actions completed in the past? It’s time to break out the preterit tense.

We’ll dive into the basic framework of the preterit plus you’ll learn the two most common pronunciation errors made by native English speakers.

You’ll gain a solid understanding of how accents and pronunciation work when speaking in the preterit, so you’re never left wondering how to say it out loud.

    >> Walk away with a whole new level of confidence in understanding natural spoken Spanish, so you take your conversational skills up a notch.

  • Here’s where you learn those pesky irregular preterit verbs that you’ll need to deepen your everyday conversations.

You’ll learn my tips for memorizing them so you can quickly recall them when needed. And you’ll gain a solid understanding of which ones have spelling changes (looking at you hacer!).

    >> Walk away with a sense of accomplishment when you recall the conjugations quickly using my key memorization tips.

  • Here’s where we dive into verbs with stem and spelling changes. This can be a tricky area for English speakers (I know it was for me!) so I make sure to break it all down in digestible chunks.

    We cover:

→ Stem changes that only happen in the third person

→ Stem-changing -AR and -ER verbs in the present that do not have a stem change in the preterit

→ Spelling changes with c, g, z (and the powerful why behind it)

→ Spelling changes in -ER verbs whose stems end in a vowel

→ Spelling changes in -IR verbs that end in -uir

PHEW, this is one jam-packed module with everything you need to drill in this small intermediate hump.

    >> Walk away with the ability to confidently identify verbs with stem and spelling changes quickly so you can express yourself in the past tense.

  • Did you know there are a few verbs, including ser and estar, that actually change their meaning when you use them in the preterit?

These verbs don’t follow the mold you’ve been learning about up until now.

Inside, you’ll be equipped with everything you need to know to use these tricky verbs correctly right off the bat.

    >> Walk away with a deep understanding of verbs that change meaning in the preterit so that you can use them confidently in everyday conversations.

  • Let’s dive into the nuances of the imperfect tense and how to use it!

    Inside you’ll learn

→ Regular and irregular imperfect conjugations (plus some pronunciation tips! 🙌)

→ The five instances where you always use the imperfect

→ Two translation hacks to help you use the imperfect correctly

Plus I’m sharing two easy expressions using the imperfect I use ALL of the time. (This is one you’ll want to bookmark to return to again and again 😉.)

    >> Walk away with a clear understanding of when to use the imperfect plus two easy expressions you can start using today!

  • Let’s bring all the pieces of the puzzle together!

Inside you’ll learn the two skills you need to focus on first when starting to use the preterit and imperfect (and where most students get it wrong). Plus I’m sharing three go-to questions to ask yourself to quickly figure out which tense to use.

You’ll also learn which verbs tend to be expressed in one tense or the other (which makes choosing between them a no-brainer). And you’ll leverage the power of key trigger phrases to help you choose accurately in real time.

    >> Walk away with all my personal tips and tricks to choose between the preterit and imperfect without breaking a sweat.

  • Let’s explore the chameleon-like nature of verbs such as tener, pensar, poder, conocer, and others – these are the verbs whose meaning changes depending on the tense.

Inside, you’ll get everything you need to demystify these verbs including the default tense I lean on when I can’t remember the correct one or my mind goes totally blank. (Hey, we’ve all been there. 😉)

And if you’ve ever been puzzled by seeing haber in its infinitive form while reading, I give you the tools to officially clear up the confusion once and for all. Plus you’ll learn how to leverage some handy expressions like tener que and acabar de that will serve you over and over again.

    >> Walk away with the knowledge to use these chameleon verbs correctly to transform your conversations and storytelling (while also helping you to understand native speakers better).

  • Let’s put the conjugations and trigger words aside and dive into 7 practical strategies that have served me well over the past 10+ years speaking Spanish.

I’m giving you all of the techniques on how to prepare your most shared stories in advance so you leverage every opportunity to share without freezing up.

And you’ll be introduced to the Debrief Method – a powerful tool to refine your language skills immediately after every conversation.

Plus you’ll learn how to keep the conversation going even when you can’t remember a specific word.

    >> Walk away with battled tested strategies to make noticeable strides in your Spanish speaking ability.

SIMPLE SPANISH STORYTELLING Is Already Helping Dozens of Students Get Ahead…

“I had pretty high expectations for Simple Spanish Storytelling and, even though it sounds cliché to say, it exceeded all of them.”

“Before taking Simple Spanish Storytelling I had been studying Spanish for three years but I would get really frustrated whenever I would try to speak about the past.

Inside the course, Dominique was able to explain how to use the preterit and imperfect in a way that just made it all click.

The stories are very focused on real life.

It’s incredible to see how much Dominique has helped my Spanish grow. She’s great at teaching you what you need to be able to progress. Just phenomenal. Simple Spanish Storytelling was the key to take my Spanish to a whole other level.”

-Kimberly W

“Dominique is someone, just like me, who learned Spanish as an adult and has little tricks to help with the process.”

“Dominique’s style of teaching really helped me understand the topics.

I LOVE the included worksheets and plan to redo them until they become second nature.

I like that she explains in the answer key why each verb tense is used and it’s also very helpful to have the English translation of each story to help with comprehension.

The written assignments each week really helped to solidify my understanding of the verb tenses.

And the module about SER and ESTAR is great since those two verbs have been a challenge for me.”

-Donalda M.

“Dominique’s ability to take difficult concepts and make it approachable and easy is so incredibly valuable.”

“Before Simple Spanish Storytelling, I had tried to learn about the past tenses and the other explanations weren’t as clear. It just didn’t click in the same way.

After Simple Spanish Storytelling I have a lot more confidence in finding the right word in conversations.

Even if I’m incorrect sometimes, it doesn’t feel as daunting as before.

Dominique’s level of organization and the way she’s able to chunk similar information together is amazing.

She starts at a foundational level and builds it all up from there. And she’s really good at pointing out where mistakes can happen, which were scenarios I had come across before and never had it explained to me like that.”

-Samantha M

“Dominique meets you where you are in your language journey and walks you through the next step.”

“Dominique is such a great teacher.

From the introductory video lesson to the practice worksheets – each activity in Simple Spanish Storytelling is perfectly on point to help take the next step in your learning.

What makes Dominique a GREAT teacher, not just a good one, is the way she shows you how to learn.

She is incredibly accepting, supportive, and challenging all at the same time.“

-Linda

Un Gusto Conocerte, Soy Dominique

I’m on a mission to make speaking Spanish feel doable.

I know what it’s like to feel an undeniable, heart-centered pull to speak Spanish. I also know what it’s like to feel frustrated and overwhelmed by the journey.

Once you get over the initial “honeymoon” phase of the language, where motivation is high and progress is fast, you hit the slow-moving intermediate plateau. Where you don’t always see progress as quickly.

I remember binging podcasts I didn’t fully understand, singing along to Marc Anthony without knowing most of the words, and showing up in spaces where I was the only English speaker around.

Intimidating, to say the least.

And I fully remember the times my mind would go blank and I couldn’t recall a word mid-sentence. Happens to the best of us, right?

The thing is, when you’re learning a new language, there are moments when progress is happening, but you’re not able to see the noticeable difference in your day to day. So it can feel like you’re climbing a staircase that seems to get steeper with every step.

But when you’re finally able to share a story from your past completely in Spanish without having to stop and translate in your head first, then you’ll know every bit of effort was well worth it.

I know because I lived it. When I was able to hold an entire conversation with a native speaker I ran home to do a happy dance. It was the best feeling ever! I not only felt accomplished, but I truly felt a part of a rich culture that I admired for so long.

Since then, I’ve dedicated myself to offering a clear, step-by-step blueprint to guide passionate Spanish learners (like you!) to turn their knowledge into real, meaningful conversations.

It isn’t just about learning Spanish. It’s about opening doors to a new world where you feel truly engaged and deeply connected.

Let’s travel this road together, and I promise, the view from the top is breathtaking.

Still wondering if this course is the [salsa] step you need next?

Let’s dance through the details to see if it’s your style of rhythm…

Simple Spanish Storytelling is for you if…

You’ve got your hands on all sorts of learning tools but feel like you’re missing a master key – this course brings it all together in a way that makes sense

You’re itching to apply your textbook knowledge to casual (but insanely motivating!) conversations with the Spanish speakers in your life

You’re tired of freezing up when it’s your turn to speak and can’t wait until you can spontaneously answer a question, without translating in your head first

You’re starting to understand bits and pieces of conversations and you crave the satisfaction of it all becoming *even more* clear (like laughing along to the punchline of your favorite Spanish podcast)

You’re all in, ready to weave Spanish learning into your daily routine, knowing it’s about the journey as much as the destination

The Monarch Method to Learning Spanish

HOW SPANISH WITH DOMINIQUE IS DIFFERENT

The migration of the monarch butterfly is a feat of nature, unmatched in the insect world.

“Okay, but what does this have to do with learning Spanish?” you might be wondering. Don’t worry, I’ll get to that in a sec.

You see, the monarch butterflies migrate from as far north as Canada to the forests of Michoacan (a journey that takes months!) starting in late autumn.

A typical adult monarch only lives for 2-6 weeks. So their one goal is to fly as hard as they can to the next place to lay eggs and pass the baton to the next generation – until finally they reach their destination.

This is where the story gets truly fascinating.

When monarchs migrate back north, a single generation, the super butterflies, makes the entire journey.

These super butterflies can live up to 9 months. They journey all the way home even though they’ve never actually been there before.

My point is, language learning, just like the story of the monarch butterfly, is all about resilience, adaptability, and the relentless pursuit of a goal.

Sometimes we’re in periods of intense sprinting.

Sometimes we’re embarking on a long, continuous stretch of learning, navigating uncharted territories with endurance and purpose.

Either way, it’s about having a clear goal in mind with mapped out stepping stones to get you there. So you learn effectively, without wasting effort.

That’s exactly what’s waiting for you inside this course.

Inside, you won’t just find lessons. You get a proven system to get you where you want to go.

Sometimes it’ll be a sprint, where you see a dramatic boost in your language skills, and sometimes it’ll be about staying the course and enjoying the journey for the long haul.

This approach means you’re not just learning Spanish, you’re living it, making it a part of your very fabric. Just as the migration instinct is woven into the monarch’s DNA.

Welcome to the path of the super butterfly.

A final note from Dominique

Looking back now, it feels strange to imagine a life where Spanish isn’t a part of who I am. It’s so deeply entrenched in the person I am today.

Even ten plus years down the road, I still find ways to fall in love with the language all over again.

And I know that’s what awaits you, too.

Whether your dream is to foster a deeper connection with Spanish-speaking family members, connect with locals while traveling or to immerse yourself fully in Spanish-speaking cultures, it is possible to get there.

Step by step, you’ll learn how to share stories, laughter, and life experiences without the barrier of language standing in your way. And in doing so, you’ll open up to a whole new world, rich in culture and traditions.

So whether you decide to join me inside or not, keep pushing towards your Spanish goals.

I’ll be rooting for you.

Un abrazo, Dominique
